DATE: September 28, 2022
REGARDING: Petition from Elmira District Secondary School Retirees
PROTECTED A:
You have recently received , from Gord Nicholls, a petition that was signed by 8 Preston High School retirees at their recent breakfast. A group of 36 EDSS retirees are similarly submitting the same petition, below, that was signed at their Wednesday Sept. 28 Retiree lunch.
This information is Protected A as the contact information is intended to be used by you to inform retirees of developments in the Cyber attack. For example, the memo to schools, yesterday, should also have been provided to retirees. In particular, the following paragraph in a Secondary School notice would be especially reassuring to retirees.
“The WRDSB deeply regrets this incident and any concern or inconvenience it may have caused you. The WRDSB is committed to safeguarding your information, and we have recovered this data and received assurances that any copies were deleted. We are committed to transparency regarding the impact of this incident on your data, and we will continue to share the results of our analysis as they become available.”
Please keep your retirees “in the loop” as, through no fault of their own, they have been adversely affected by the Cyber attack on their personal sensitive data.
The petition follows:
==============================================================================
The recent declaration by the WRDSB that confidential information about current and retired employees dating back to 1970 was hacked is a source of concern for those whose information was compromised by this computer hacking episode.
It is also very concerning that the WRDSB has not sent any information to retirees about either the actual hacking , the impact it could have on an employee or retirees financial status nor about what the WRDSB is planning to do to protect any person whose personal information is used to impact on their way of life.
In particular we are concerned about the following possibilities:
1. The hacker may attempt to use the financial information to withdraw money from a person’s bank account if they still maintain the same bank account.
2. The hacker may attempt to use the personal and financial information to establish a line of credit and then use that credit to make large purchases.
It is important that the WRDSB inform all employees and retirees by mail what steps have been taken to guarantee that if either of the above concerns takes place then what the WRDSB will do to compensate the persons who are impacted.
It is also important that the records of all retirees be removed from the online computer system of the WRDSB. If this has not yet been done then it should be done immediately.
Please inform all persons impacted as soon as possible about the answers to the above questions and the actions the WRDSB will take to protect all impacted by this computer breach.
Yours truly Elmira District Secondary School Retirees
